[_] Self-Care: Having Breaks: “Took care of me” Positive Parenting involves a lot of patience for parents to perform. They learn how to use meditation and exercise for calming themselves. Parents find out that they are less agitated finding creative ways to help their children solve problems when the parents themselves have practiced stress management techniques with: music-therapy, color-therapy, meditation, movement exercises and aromatherapy. Parents enjoy learning how easy implementing the Positive Parenting style is with using aromatherapy for self-care. By inhaling ginger as an essential oil in a cool mist diffuser with lemon essential oil, parents feel the scents helps with calming, focusing, reducing anger, tension and anxieties caused by stress.

[_] Addressing “High-risk” situation(s): Getting Support , Planning for outtings Parents learn from each other and reinforcing what they have learned from group sessions with other participants. When parents realize the way in which positive parenting techniques has worked for them, they are more invested in and eager to share with other family members what has worked for them and how they too can learn to handle issues with children. It’s important that parents have a vested interest in the program and feel valued while expressing the positive parenting material in a way that has been beneficial for their family.


Parents have expressed a desire to want to continue making the changes they see in their children and are experiencing in themselves permanently. The classes have been well received and parents share their appreciation for the guidance as they have learned how to choose better health for themselves and their family.




For parents who are interested in encouraging their child's natural gifts & developing their talents while addressing their Life Purpose, nurturing, training, and promoting their child’s and building character, "Socializing Our Youth" is an Parenting Program for mothers, fathers, and caregivers.  It consists of: 8-12 weeks

  • 1) Individual Intake Assessment & Goal Setting for a child 0-12 years old
  • 4) 2 Hour Group Classes
  • 3) Individual Phone Sessions: Reporting on positive parenting technique & progress
  • 1) End of Classes Assessment & Survey
  • 3) Individual Case Management Sessions
  • [_] Parents are engaged in exercises to learn about the causes of child behavior: Mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically
  • [_] Parents set their own specific goals, and use positive parenting strategies to promote child development
  • [_] Parents learn how to take care of themselves in order to patiently and effectively properly manage misbehavior
  • [_] Parents learn how to work together as a team being in a co-parent relationship for the betterment of the family and children

Built into the program are individual telephone consultations and case management to assist parents with independent problem solving while they are practicing the skills at home. In the final session the group reviews progress to discuss maintenance and general issues.



[_] Having “Realistic Age Expectations” Parents discover how to guide and advocate for each child based on their level of development depending on their ages.

[_] Teaching “Communication Skills”: Parents utilize quality time by speaking with children daily about their life, all in a day's time.  Find out about their day, their interests, their close friends they associate it with, and the relationship between student and teacher is so key to learning about a child’s character and how to engage them in activities, while managing potential problem areas. Parents are encouraged to Securing bonds “Showing Safe Affection.”


[_] “Praise” Encourage Good Behavior . Children respond best to Apositive reinforcement. Parents have shared that their children now offer to assist around the house since they have been receiving more praises. Parents also are surprised to learn by keeping a chart of their children’s behavior and marking it consistently they are able to maintain family routines.

[_] Setting “Good Healthy Examples” The Challenges Food is a major challenge in many families. Temper tantrums, obesity, misbehaving can all be traced back to unhealthy food intake. Parents learn how to address a child’s behavior by providing more selections of fruits for snacks instead of candy. And healthier protein soups & vegetable "wrap & rolls" instead of hamburgers and fries. Participants enjoyed a “field trip” to the local farmers market to learn how to better shop for healthier food.

[_] Healthy Nutritional Awareness Recognizing dis-eases such as childhood diabetes being on the rise & studies are attributing the rise to unhealthy food. We discuss the need for change in our families. Parents talk about children being out of control. With the use of TV being a main source of information. Parents agree that their children are being influenced by commercials that advertise foods heavily manufactured with additives: hormones, food coloring, artificial flavors, salt, & sugar. We acknowledge that our young children are developing prematurely physically but not always at the same rate mentally because of these additives. Studies are also linking foods to a child’s behavior: ADD, ADHD, anxieties, stress & learning difficulties.

[_] The Solutions In our parenting sessions, fathers & mothers learn the many ways they can be setting “good healthy examples” One way is by addressing the unhealthier types of diets by replacing fast foods that contain fat & salt with more fruit, vegetables, whole grains and beans. Cutting down on sugar laden foods such as: cereals, juices, & soda pops. Ginger is one of the foods parents are introduced to in the program. Parents receive simple recipes to see how easy it is to integrate ginger in the meals. As a natural food candy snack, mixed in with other vegetables in a vegetarian wrap, or cooked in a lentil soup. Ginger is also very well tolerated blended in with other fruit for smoothie, or with water as a tea.
